Oxfordshire's Strongest Man returns for 2027. 5 new events designed to find the strongest man and woman in the county. To compete, athletes must either: > Reside or train regularly in Oxfordshire > Have been born in Oxfordshire.

Oxfordshire's Strongest Man & Woman returns to Banbury Rugby Club for another year!!

Please note this is an INVITATION ONLY competition - if you would like to be considered for an invite - please message Haynes Strength on Instagram or email paddystrongman@gmail.com.

The 2027 events will be:

1 - Max Deadlift

PURPLE Texas deadlift bar and calibrated plates. I'm treating you guys to best kit there is.

3 lifts to produce the biggest deadlift possible.

Suits allowed. Figure 8's allowed.

2 - Spartan Dumbbell for Reps (Sponsored by Spartan Atlas Stones)

A giant concrete dumbbell that needs to be cleaned and pressed for as many repetitions as possible. [EXACT WEIGHTS TBC - Men circa 70KG, women circa 35KG]

This will be a TRUMP style event. If the athlete cannot complete a repetition on the heavy dumbbell, they will be able to complete reps on a lighter Strength Shop Circus Dumbbell (Men 53KG / Women 20KG). One rep on the purple dumbbell will beat any reps on the lighter dumbbell.

3 - Conans Wheel (Sponsored by Haynes Strength)

Paddy's favourite. Pick it up and carry it as far as possible. Men will have 260KG added to the frame - women will have 130KG. Please note this does not equate to the actual weight in the hands, it'll be lighter than the weight given.

No drops - as soon as it hits the floor your distance will be measured

4 - The Padlock Throw?? - Sponsored by Squire Locks.

A brand new event to strongman. Athletes will be tested to see who can throw a chain and padlock the highest. We will run it rising bar style, so everyone will start at the lowest height (2m) and we will go up in 50cm jumps all the way up to 4m. Weights and exact set up will be revealed soon - but its proper cool, trust me. Women's weight roughly 10kg, men's roughly 25kg.

5 - Atlas Stone over Bar (48" Bar Height)

(Also Trump Style)

Men's Weights - 160KG & 120KG

Women's Weights 100KG & 60KG

Current Champions - Andy Sammons (M) / Lisa Wallman (W).

Ties for podium places will be settled with a GRIP related tie breaker.

Please note for this comp we are going to be competing on the gravel. I will be taking flooring for the static events, but for the throwing and Conans you will be on the gravel! Food, Drink & Merch will be available all day. Spectator tickets are available via Strength Register in advance (£5 adult ticket, £2.50 U16).

Please be aware the rugby club does not allow dogs - so sadly please leave furry friends at home.

ATHLETE PACKS AND INVITES WILL BE SENT OUT IN THE COMING DAYS.

Deadlift

Max Deadlift (3 Lifts)

Texas DL Bar and Bodypower Titan Calibrated Plates.

Allowed:

  • Any Straps (thumb must stay in contact with the bar)
  • Suits & Briefs
  • Talc
  • Shouting "LIGHTWEIGHT BABY"

Not Allowed:

  • Excessive Hitching - What I mean by this, is I'm not allowing the technique where you sit the bar on your knees, squat down, bend your arms, and then stand up. I can't even justify why I just hate it.
  • Any oils or lubricants on the legs

Dumbbell Press

Athletes will have a giant dumbbell "db" (purple atlas DB) and a lighter Strengthshop DB. Any amount of reps on the bigger dumbbell will trump reps on the lighter weight.

Second hand must be off the dumbbell before the athlete starts the dip and drive. Athletes are allowed to clean and position the dumbbell with one hand, but cannot use two once the press begins.

The dumbbell MUST be returned to the drop pad in order to gain a good lift, if it lands on the floor it will not count. If the athlete drops the dumbbell on the floor twice, their go will be terminated.

Conan's wheel

Pick it up and goooooo

The bar will be set to the shortest athletes height and it will be the same for everyone.

If the bar skims the gravel and you keep going, you will get a warning. If it touches twice, we will stop your turn and measure to where it touched the ground.

  • NO GRIP TOPS
  • If you wear a belt, it must be facing the side of the back - you will not be allowed to rest it on your belt.

Squire Locks Padlock Throw

A brand new event to strongman.

Athletes will be tasked on throwing a padlock and chain over rising bars, starting at 2m. Exact weights tbc.

Athletes will be stood on two blocks and will swing the chain and padlock between their legs like a standard bag toss.

You only get one attempt at each height! If you miss it, you're out.

If we get to the point where we can't go any higher, remaining athletes will share points (having felt the padlocks - I think this is extremely unlikely loooool)

We'll probably go 2m, 2.5m, 3m, 3.5m, 4m, 4.5m - but if we need smaller jumps on the day we'll bloody do it!!

Atlas stone over bar

Athletes will rep a stone over bar as many times as they can in 60s. A loader will be the other side to roll it back to you.

If athletes try the heavier option and cant get a rep, they can swap to the lighter option, but they will need to roll it in themselves. We'll put the stone you ask for out before your turn.

160KG / 120KG for men 100KG / 60KG for women

Tacky and sleeves allowed.

No grip tops.

48 inch bar height.
